Bench Mark-Abuse and neglect
Each year, approximately two thousand children die because of mistreatment, and more than half a million are seriously injured (Pozgar, 2020). As a result, the government has put in place measures to try and protect children from maltreatment by enacting mandatory reporting requirements for professionals. The Federal Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act (CAPTA) mandates states to make statutory provisions to require certain individuals like healthcare professionals to report cases of neglect or abuse. Since healthcare professionals are required by law to refer to any obvious or ostensible instances of abuse or neglect, it is a matter of concern for the management of healthcare institutions, and therefore these institutions have developed policies and procedures for their staff concerning such mandated reports.
