Answer preview
When the American Pharmaceutical Association published the first National Formulary in 1888, it was a clear indicator that standards will be an important commitment in the pharmacy role (Mc McCarthy). It is evolving from taking a passive role in healthcare to actively enhancing patients’ access to high quality and safe healthcare services. Today pharmacists are last in line in defense of patients, which indicates a transition from drug focus to patient focus (Toklu, & Hussain, 2013). This is an integration of pharmacists to a healthcare team committed to providing better healthcare services.
