Answer preview

Although consciousness might sound simple, it has not been easy to integrate it with science because there are no radical fundamental ideas that can relate its concepts with science (Chalmers, 01:38-02:21). The greatest barrier that hinders science-consciousness integration is the fact that science is objective while consciousness is subjective. Therefore, to explain consciousness scientifically, this barrier must be addressed through research. In the past years, scientists and philosophers have put forth significant efforts to study various aspects that are related to consciousness. That is, the objective approach has been used to study the working of the brain and human behaviors. For instance, functionalism has been used to explain how different mental states relate to certain physical body activities (Payne, 76).
