The second consideration organizations should note is the impact of laying off employees on the remaining employees’ morale and productivity (Downs, 2011). One of the downsides of laying off employees is that those left behind go down the productivity and performance levels of those left behind. When employees are unaware of what is happening and later on why downsizing happened, considering managers fail to pass across such information, their morale and engagement levels deep immensely (Downs, 2011). They will lose the trust and respect they have for the organization, and as such, will not feel motivated to come into work, with others even resigning.
