The client indicates to you in a calm, reasonable way that he/she is going to drive out to an isolated spot in a state park, drink a thermos of margaritas, take out her 9 mm automatic, make an audio tape telling her family how much she loves them and how she doesn’t want to be a burden on them, and then kill herself. Run a five minute crisis intervention session.. With the following criteria in mind, how do you feel you did?

After the patient is in a safe environment, the next step would be to provide the much-needed support that she needs (Neil, 2017). This support could come in the form of having conversations with the patient and showing her that having AIDS does not make her any less human and that she should not feel isolated because of the disease. In light of that, revealing to her that there are better alternatives to suicide would be the next step (Neil, 2017). The patient is educated on the harm suicide does to the victim’s family and that it is never the best choice to make. In addition to that, the family should be encouraged to communicate the same to her.
The next step would be to encourage the patient to make plans for the future (Neil, 2017). Having goals and aspirations could be a sure way of finding a reason to live and goes a long way in diminishing the patient’s disparity. Therefore, the plans must be capable of making the patient feel empowered. Once the project has been established, the patient should be encouraged to show commitment to the plan (Neil, 2017). Therefore, encouraging the family to get involved in the plan would enable the patient to follow through.
