Answer preview

A rectal examination is an uncomfortable but critical part of any physical examination. It can help doctors and physicians to identify GI diseases, rectal bleeding, and urinary or fecal incontinence. It is particularly important for older people since they are more likely to suffer from gastrointestinal problems. Examining elderly patients is a delicate affair and requires a position that is not too difficult for them. A rectal exam can reveal prostatitis and BPH to allow for timely interventions. It is, therefore, important that doctors and physicians carry out rectal examinations as often as possible without making the patient uncomfortable.
