Booker T. Washington and W.E.B Du Bois have clashing ideologies regarding African Americans’ racial issues. Washington was an influential activist and African American author of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He emphasized that African Americans would only overcome the race issues by becoming economically independent. Washington believed that Blacks needed to get trained in agricultural practices and industrial labor as well as engage in practical work skills to become successful in the progressing Industrial Revolution (Berke et al., 2015). He supported the established rules that minority groups were separate but equal because he considered that the accomplishments from the acquired training strengthened Blacks’ self-
