Foreign key constraints in database systems are essential for they enforce table relationships. In this case, they prevent the input data from changing when an individual makes a delete command. Hence, the enforcement of key and foreign key constraints by the Database Management Systems (DBMS) can occur in different forms. With key constraints, creating an index that merges the attributes help form the primary and secondary keys. According to Elmasri and Navathe (2017), each index does the searching to ensure no value that matches with the key constraints exists in the newly created record. Further, with the foreign key constraints, the identified index in the primary key of the referenced record checks efficiency whenever there is a new record inserted. The foreign key’s value searches the index.
