On the other hand, Vygotsky’s theory indicates that social interactions are crucial in cognitive development, and hence cognitive abilities are guided by social interactions. Therefore culture plays an essential role in developing abilities such as learning, memory, attention, and solving problems. Culture impacts the way children organize and perceive, and understand the world (Meadows, 2019).  For example, children may be encouraged to play outside in one culture, while they may be encouraged to play indoors with toys in another. Children from both cultures will adapt to what they learn from their culture and social interactions.

Both theories indicate that children are active learners and learn increasingly complex information as they get older in learning and development. In both, the theories indicate that language is essential in cognitive development. Piagets’ theory indicates that children use accommodation and assimilation to learn a language and result from cognitive development
