Brain gain is the increase in the number of highly educated and experienced professionals from different cities or countries to work in a country or city with better and greater job opportunities (MATR 2003, November 11). Several cities are affected by brain gain, including Seattle, Atlanta, Washington, San Francisco, Raleigh, San Diego, Durham, Minneapolis, Boston, Austin, Denver, and Atlanta.
