concerns, common problems experienced, a review of inadvertent gear up landing

should address the various lessons learned from previous such incidents, and address what
measures (procedural, technological, etc.) should be adopted to prevent similar incidents from
occurring in the future. The style required for formatting the paper is American Psychological
Association (APA), 7th edition, guidelines. The paper will be graded on accuracy and
completeness of information, cohesiveness, spelling and grammar, and number and quality of
references. The paper should be a minimum of 5 pages of content (typewritten, double-spaced,
one inch margins, and no larger than 12 point font). A minimum of 5 quality references,
appropriately cited in the text and appropriately listed on a reference page, should be used. In

Europe circa 1911 is perceived to be the first aircraft fitted with a retractable landing gear design. However, a working prototype was not fitted onto an aircraft until after World War I (Krakowska, 2018). The need for retractable gear systems was motivated by the fact that aircrafts being manufactured were heavier and faster. In addition, airport infrastructure, which at the time predominantly comprised of open fields and windsocks, could not support these aircraft. Due to this, some of the fastest aircraft during the 1920s and 1930s were seaplanes (Krakowska, 2018). However, when WW II broke out, aircrafts started being fitted with retractable landing gear, set up in a tail-dragging configuration. As the years passed, more sophisticated and effective retractable landing gears were being developed and equipped onto airplanes, with companies such as Boeing and Lockheed leading these efforts.
