Answer preview
The sociocultural perspective uses the perspective of the fish metaphor to explain human behavior. Similar to the fish metaphor, people experience their lives through a culture without recognizing its impact. Within one’s culture, an individual must recognize its impact. Therefore, training may need to be adapted to enable individuals to conform to different cultural settings. Sociocultural psychologists examine the impact of culture on an individual’s behavior (Markus and Hamedani, 2017). A person can function in a new cultural environment by learning the social norms and values of the surrounding. It will help one to adopt new behaviors that are acceptable and in alignment with the new culture. The fish’s strained experience when taken out of the water represents the delicate nature of human culture and its interactions with new cultures.
