Altered arousal and reactivity occur in phase five. The person’s trauma-related stimulation and reaction increasingly worsen in the following ways: increased irritability and aggression, anger outbursts, hypersensitivity to one’s environment, difficulties in sleeping and concentrating, and engaging in life-threatening behavior. Finally, it is expected that the symptoms will last more than one month. Also, the symptoms cause agony and impairment in the individual functionality, and that the symptoms are not a result of medicine, drug abuse, or any other sickness (Yang et al., 2017). Though the symptoms may manifest immediately after the traumatic event, the overall diagnostic criteria are done six months after the stressful event.
