Answer preview

Traditional Chinese art began centuries ago, with their guiding themes predominantly anchored on religion and myths. Over time, more and more themes began coming up, leading to the emergence of different factions characterized by different styles. Chinese philosophies such as Daoism, Taoism, and Confucianism, and to some extent, Buddhism influenced traditional Chinese art. According to Michel-Schertges (4), traditional Chinese artists, especially those doing landscape painting, got their inspiration from these philosophies, precisely their fascination with nobility, nature, harmony, and unity. Even though each dynasty occasioned some variations in traditional Chinese art, the changes never exceeded Chinese cultural limits. Michel-Schertges (5) argues that despite the freedom of expression and creation that traditional Chinese artists enjoyed, they were limited by their cultural ideals and believes, never straying away from them.
