One of the current potential problems in police departments’ structure and design is that it does not provide transparency to the public (Gaines and Kappeler, 2016). Officers in the law enforcement agencies collaborate to hide critical information form the public which jeopardizes trust with the community. When issues arise, it is difficult for society to believe in the policies enforced by the officers in providing safety. Another challenge with the structure is that the police force is not trained to be accountable for making mistakes in their services. If officers acknowledged their participation in specific issues, the community would begin to trust in their integrity. Besides, mots police departments are not structurally balanced with members from diverse populations. The majority of recruited officers are white, which is a misrepresentation of the communities from other cultures. Also, officers lack adequate training to handle a crisis that affects the social interaction with the public.
