Ruth Whippman wrote an op-ed in the New York Times in 2019 titled “Enough Leaning In. Let’s Tell Men to Lean Out,” to wade in on the debate pertaining to the emasculation of men. In the op-ed, Whippman (2019) castigates the feminist movement for the evolution of women’s level of assertiveness. According to Whippman (2019), feminists have led women to believe that assertiveness of the ultimate personal aspirational quality. This results in most women assuming that they should learn to state their needs in more forceful ways. Whippman (2019) further argues that feminism encourages women to cease apologizing and demand a raise or even power pose in bathrooms before meetings.
