Chapter 14: Adolescent Stress and Alienation or Chapter 15: Substance Abuse, Addiction, and Dependency

Week 1 Final Project Directions

Final Project Directions

undefinedFor your final project you will be writing a paper in APA format. (See details below.)
Your paper should be approximately 4-5 pages or 1200 words.

In your paper you will choose from one of the topics listed in Chapter 14: Adolescent Stress and Alienation or Chapter 15: Substance Abuse, Addiction, and Dependency. Here are the topics:

Running Away
Teen Depression
Suicide
Self-Injurious Behavior
Eating Disorders
Juvenile Delinquency
Conduct Disorder, ODD, and ADHD
Juvenile Gangs
Drug Use and Abuse
Tobacco and Smoking
Alcohol and Excessive Drinking

Your completed paper will be due on Sunday night, the last night of Week 3 at one minute before midnight, E.S.T.
*Remember, we already know what the textbook says so you will want to do good research to find additional materials on this topic as it specifically relates to adolescents. Your textbook is fine as one resource but you will need at least 3 others for a total of 4 in addition to the text.
Your paper will analyze the topic presented in the text, Chapter 14. You will need to include and cover these important details about your topic:

1) Introduction: A proper definition/introduction of the problem you will present
2) Epidemiology overview (the causes, statistical information)
3) Causes and symptoms (why do teens struggle with this stressor)
4) Nature or Nurture (Discuss whether it is hereditary or environmental or both.)
5) Diagnosis or assessment (Discuss how the stressor is recognized, diagnosed or assessed.)
6) Treatment (Options and prevention)
7) Conclusion (What additional thoughts do you have? What have you learned?)

Be sure to review the grading grid so that you will be aware of how your paper will be graded. This should also serve as a guide to help you remember to include all of the important elements in the paper.

, must be your own work and in your own words. . Copy paste from websites or textbooks will not be accepted or tolerated. Please see College Handbook with reference to Academic Misconduct Statement.

All answers to case studies must have reference cited in text for each answer and minimum of 2 Scholarly References (Journals, books) (No websites) per case Study

Lyme Disease Case Study A 38-year-old male had a 3-week history of fatigue and lethargy with intermittent complaints of headache, fever, chills, myalgia, and arthralgia. According to the history, the patient’s symptoms began shortly after a camping vacation. He recalled a bug bite and rash on his thigh immediately after the trip. The following studies were ordered: Studies Results Lyme disease test, Elevated IgM antibody titers against Borrelia burgdorferi (normal: low) Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), 30 mm/hour (normal: ≤15 mm/hour) Aspartate aminotransferase (AST), 32 units/L (normal: 8-20 units/L) Hemoglobin (Hgb), 12 g/dL (normal: 14-18 g/dL) Hematocrit (Hct), 36% (normal: 42%-52%) Rheumatoid factor (RF), Negative (normal: negative) Antinuclear antibodies (ANA), Negative (normal: negative) Diagnostic Analysis Based on the patient’s history of camping in the woods and an insect bite and rash on the thigh, Lyme disease was suspected. Early in the course of this disease, testing for specific immunoglobulin (Ig) M antibodies against B. burgdorferi is the most helpful in diagnosing Lyme disease. An elevated ESR, increased AST levels, and mild anemia are frequently seen early in this disease. RF and ANA abnormalities are usually absent.

Critical Thinking Questions 1. What is the cardinal sign of Lyme disease? (always on the boards) 2. At what stages of Lyme disease are the IgG and IgM antibodies elevated? 3. Why was the ESR elevated? 4. What is the Therapeutic goal for Lyme Disease and what is the recommended treatment.

Peripheral Vascular Disease Case Studies A 52-year-old man complained of pain and cramping in his right calf caused by walking two blocks. The pain was relieved with cessation of activity. The pain had been increasing in frequency and intensity. Physical examination findings were essentially normal except for decreased hair on the right leg. The patient’s popliteal, dorsalis pedis, and posterior tibial pulses were markedly decreased compared with those of his left leg. Studies Results Routine laboratory work Within normal limits (WNL) Doppler ultrasound systolic pressures Femoral: 130 mm Hg; popliteal: 90 mm Hg; posterior tibial: 88 mm Hg; dorsalis pedis: 88 mm Hg (normal: same as brachial systolic blood pressure) Arterial plethysmography Decreased amplitude of distal femoral, popliteal, dorsalis pedis, and posterior tibial pulse waves Femoral arteriography of right leg Obstruction of the femoral artery at the midthigh level Arterial duplex scan Apparent arterial obstruction in the superficial femoral artery Diagnostic Analysis With the clinical picture of classic intermittent claudication, the noninvasive Doppler and plethysmographic arterial vascular study merely documented the presence and location of the arterial occlusion in the proximal femoral artery. Most vascular surgeons prefer arteriography to document the location of the vascular occlusion. The patient underwent a bypass from the proximal femoral artery to the popliteal artery. After surgery he was asymptomatic.

Critical Thinking Questions 1. What was the cause of this patient’s pain and cramping? 2. Why was there decreased hair on the patient’s right leg? 3. What would be the strategic physical assessments after surgery to determine the adequacy of the patient’s circulation? 4. What would be the treatment of intermittent Claudication for non-occlusion?

Requirements: 4 paragraph each case study

ECON488 Discussion Question

ECON488 Discussion Question

Let’s find import and export data to inform this week’s discussion. While there are many excellent online sources of trade data, please use the Department of Commerce report, U.S. Goods Trade: Imports & Exports by Related-Parties 2016. Here’s a screenshot showing step-by-step how to get data. Select any product you would like to discuss:

My query on Potatoes (NAICS code 111211) gives the following import/export data:

KFirstly, discuss some interesting statistics you found for your product. For me, I find it interesting that Canada is the number 1 source for potatoes imported into the United States. In 2016, we imported over $200 million in potatoes from Canada. Maybe even more interesting is that the number 2 country is Jamaica with over $21 million in potatoes imported. I don’t know enough about the potato market to know what varieties of potatoes we might get from Jamaica. In your post, please share any additional knowledge you have about your product that may be informative to understanding the statistics.

Secondly, think about the concept of comparative advantage. What is comparative advantage? How does comparative advantage lead to trade between countries? Do both countries benefit when they trade goods? And finally, why does the U.S. both import and export products with countries. For example, while we import over $200 million in potatoes from Canada, we export over $150 million in potatoes toCanada. Why is that? Does bilateral trade of the same good fit with the idea of comparative advantage?

II. History: Ancient Egypt was a prominent civilization with a rich history classified in different periods.
a. The first was the predynastic period, followed by the archaic or early dynastic period.
b. Further, the historians grouped the old kingdom, first intermediate, the middle kingdom of the 12th dynasty, second intermediate, new kingdom, and the third intermediate period (Van De Mieroop, 2021).
III. In the United States, the ancient Egyptian culture’s content is evident in architectural buildings and exhibits in the Smithsonian National Museum of American History.
a. The Egyptian collections in this building and the design represent the cultural and historical content of the Egyptians.
IV. Under the cultural value dimension, the ancient Egyptian culture embraced collectivism.
a. According to Van De Mieroop (2021), the people collectively believed in the pharaoh’s leadership, who they respected and viewed as a divine leader.
b. Also, they had a collective belief in worshiping different gods and goddesses, such as Isis.
V. Worth noting, the ancient Egyptians had high artistic values in pottery, sculptures, architectural buildings, music, and dance (Riggs, 2017).
a. For instance, the architectural construction of the temples, such as the Kom Omb and Giza pyramids, are notable artistic works.
VI. As an ancient culture, the people embraced personhood or a sense of self.
a. For example, when a pharaoh died, they inscribed his portrait and significant events on his tomb as an autograph to protect his integrity.
VII. Further, religion was an essential value in this culture, which helped the ancient Egyptians upholding living in harmony and promoting life after death.
a. Notably, the religion in ancient Egypt was Heka, the god with the power of magic and medicine, and allowed the people to commune with other gods.
VIII. On an important note, men, and women in ancient Egyptians had equal rights
a. For instance, both men and women could go hunting and fishing and had the right to own property and rule (Khalil et al. 2017).
IX. On matters, acculturation, this was a practice evident in the second intermediary period.
a. The interactions that occurred between the Egyptians and Nubians made these two societies borrow certain beliefs and art practices. In this sense, there was acculturation of the animal motifs created by the ancient Egyptians and burial practices of the Nubians.
X. Conclusion
a. In conclusion, researching the ancient Egyptian culture enlightens an individual on essential values that the people upheld (Van De Mieroop, 2021).
b. Generally, religious beliefs, artistic values, among other cultural values, have been adopted by different countries such as the US.
