By the end of this week (October 13, 2018, @ 11:59 PM) you should choose from the list of cultural and sociocultural groups below and prepare a PowerPoint presentation that is due at the end of week 8. Preparation for the presentation will include synthesizing the information from readings, scientific literature, Internet resources and other sources.

This presentation should address the following; history, values, and worldview, language and communication patterns, art and other expressive forms, norms and rules, lifestyle characteristics, relationship patterns, rituals, the degree of assimilation or marginalization from mainstream society, and health behavior and practices.

In addition to describing these characteristics, the presentation must include;

a) a comparative and contrast analysis of common characteristics and distinguishing traits between the groups

b) a discussion of differential approaches needed by health care professionals

This is the only special assignment in this course and as I stated above it is due at the end of week 8. The assignment will be posted in Turnitin for grading and verify originality and in the discussion tab of the blackboard for your peers to view and comment. The intent is for ever team member to articulate in writing their personal perspective and opinion of the company. Once you complete the assignment answering from your perspective you will share this with the rest of your team. There is no “right” answer for these question. This will give them a day to read and consider all view points from their peers.

The intent of this assignment is for everyone to have input on defining the companies vision, values and goals. Then the team will reach a consensus to answer the questions. If the team members have different perspectives you will have a difficult time getting things organized. Not working in synergy will result in false starts and wasted time. The sooner you all agree and work from the same perspective the quicker and easier the final project will be.

Please remember–the more concise and detailed you are–the clearer the objectives will be for the team. Do not assume that everyone in the team is working from the same definitions. Communicate in your teams.

  1. What Industry does the company participate? Remember what we discussed in class. This definition will tie directly back to the Mission of the company. The deeper you drill down to the value proposition–the more focused your strategies will be.
  2. Give a short account of the history of the company, and trace the evolution of its strategy. Try to determine whether the strategic evolution of your company is the product of intended strategies, emergent strategies, or some combination of the two.
  3. Identify the mission and major goals of the company. In your own words, what are the vision, value, and goals of the organization to create the value proposition? Your mission definition must tie back directly to the industry you are going to serve.
  4. Do a preliminary analysis of the internal strengths and weaknesses of the company and the opportunities and threats that it faces in its environment. Based on this analysis, identify the strategies that you think the company should pursue. (You will need to perform a much more detailed analysis once the group arrives at a consensus)
  5. Who is the CEO of the company? Evaluate the CEO’s leadership capabilities.

Isaac has worked as a staff nurse on the telemetry floor for over 15 years. He holds seniority in the unit. His patient care is satisfactory; however, his interpersonal behaviors are becoming an increasing issue for his coworkers. He throws papers around the unit, gives short answers to questions, and seems generally miserable. He tells the staff that they are lazy and stupid. He is constantly questioning their decisions. You have come from another local hospital in the role of the assistant nurse manager. Based on your observations, you have met with Isaac informally and discussed his behaviors, but they have not changed. Now three new nurses have already come to you saying that this unit is a great match for them, except for one problem. Although they have not identified Isaac by name, they have told you that one of the nurses is extremely abusive verbally, and they have been calling in sick on the days they are scheduled to work with this person.

This is your first position as a nurse manager. The holidays are rapidly approaching, and the hospital policy states that each unit will negotiate holiday coverage individually.
