Essay Structure Requirements:
INTROUCTION PARAGRAPH: introduction paragraph with a hook, title of the reading, the author of the reading, publication the article appears in, explanation of what is the author’s main claim (what is their argument), explanation of the reading, and a clear thesis.
BODY PARAGRAPHS: Detailed supporting paragraphs started by topic sentences, and an adequate concluding paragraph. Each supporting paragraph must focus on only one aspect, trait, reason or point. Create detailed illustrations so your reader can “see” what’s going on. YOUR BODY PARAGRAPHS MUST INCLUDE SUPPORT FROM THE ASSIGNED READING. You must explain the Rhetorical Strategy the Author is using after you have incorporated the quote and how that strategy works on the reader. You can use “I” statements (this is a personal essay).
CONCLUSION: Full conclusion that ties up your essay. Purpose: to write an essay that analyzes the assigned text. Audience: your classmates, instructors, and people unfamiliar with the topic.
Crane 2 Length: 1,500 to 2,000 words. THE WORK CITED PAGE DOES NOT COUNT AS A PAGE. PROMPT: Is Lying a Good or Bad thing? Explain your reasoning. Your answer to this will form your Thesis Statement. You will develop your argument in at least the first three body paragraphs of your essay. Your last body paragraph must be a counter argument to your argument and must include a rebuttal. What is a counter argument that can be used against your position? Your counter argument must have a rebuttal (Your counter argument – rebuttal should be together in one paragraph – there should be a quote included. This paragraph should be the last paragraph before your conclusion. For this essay you should present at least three clear topics or opinions (each topic or opinion should be its own paragraph –
so this essay MUST BE a minimum of 6 paragraphs in total – (the counter argument is included as one of these topics). Explain your answers and support with examples from any of the article I have assigned. You must use the Assigned Reading in all your body paragraphs. You are only allowed one quote per body paragraph (maximum of 3 to 4 lines) – NO block quotes are allowed. The quote you use should support your position. You are not expected to conduct ANY research and you cannot add your own materials. This essay should include personal opinions, previous experience and observations to support your thesis.

Clinical Field Experience A: Using Technology and Media in the Classroom

Using technology-based resources within the English language arts classroom supports real-world applications and helps to inspire teachers in their lesson planning and instructional practices. Continually exploring technology resources that can be utilized within the classroom demonstrates a teaching best practice.

Allocate at least 4 hours in the field to support this field experience.

Observe an English language arts lesson taught by a certified K-8 teacher that integrates educational technology to enhance instruction. During the observation, take note of how technology was used and its effectiveness.

Following your observation, collaborate with your mentor teacher to discuss the integration of technology in the ELA classroom. Specifically discuss with your mentor teacher his or her practices related to ensuring the safe, legal, and ethical use of technology in the classroom.

Use any remaining field experience hours to assist the teacher in providing instruction and support to the class.

In 500-750 words, reflect on your observation and discussion by addressing the following:

  • During the lesson you observed, what technology resources did your mentor teacher use?
  • Describe the ways in which the observed technology positively or negatively contributed to instruction and engagement.
  • What specific additional technology could have been used within the lesson and how would you have used them?
  • How does your mentor teacher ensure the safe, legal, and ethical use of technology and information accessed from the technological resources?
  • Explain how you will use your findings related to the use of technology in ELA instruction in your future professional practice.

APA format is not required, but solid academic writing is expected.

Dialect Discrimination in the courtroom

Research suggests that using a nonstandard dialect in the courtroom may have detrimental effects on a speaker’s position in the courtroom due to dialect discrimination. For example, Rachel Jeantel, who is trilingual, spoke a nonstandard dialect of American English during her testimony as a key witness for the prosecution in the trial of Robert Zimmerman (the man who killed Trayvon Martin). Rickford (2016) argues that Rachel Jeantel’s dialect interacted with jurors’ perceptions about her credibility as a witness in the trial. In this paper I will review research that explores how one’s accent and dialect can affect how a person is treated in the courts, whether the person is the accused or a witness.
