Most of the individual who has mental illnesses are not entirely dangerous. They are simply violent hence all they need is the appropriate treatment from the health facilities. If they are not treated, they may result in tragic incidences of suicide and murder. Lawrence Steven the author of the article involuntary commitment for ‘mental illness’ states that most of the individuals in the mental facilities are not even mentally ill. There are a good number of them who are homeless individuals, the old or even adolescents sent there by their parents (Nakic, 2017). The mental health facilities are incapacitated to support all these individuals whose health status ends up deteriorating. Healthcare facilities also do not have enough capacity to host the mentally ill (Ornstein, 2018). Therefore, a good number of them end up in jails where there are no treatment provisions. This means that despite jailing this person, the objectives for excluding them from the society are not met. The objectives are meant to treat them and also reform their ways (Nakic, 2017).
