Although patient advocacy has long been viewed as an essential part of nursing, there is much need for a better understanding of what it means to advocate for health care. The role of a nurse in advocating for patients is through protecting them from harm, fostering collaboration between patients and involved health care practitioners, and educating patients hence, involving them in decision making (Brom, Salsberry, & Graham, 2018). Another way is through communicating patients’ preferences giving voice to patients regarding choices and care. That will enable patients to have power regarding their health and better manage their current and future health issues.
