Topic 7:: Organization and System theories

In this assignment, learners are required to write a case report addressing the personal knowledge and skills gained in this course and potentially solving an identified practice problem.

General Guidelines:

Use the following information to ensure successful completion of the assignment:

  • This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.
  • Doctoral learners are required to use APA style for their writing assignments. The APA Style Guide is located in the Student Success Center.
  • This assignment requires that at least four additional scholarly research sources related to this topic, and at least one in-text citation from each source be included (use Scholarly article within 5 years).

Directions:

Construct a case report (2,500-3,000 words) that includes a problem or situation consistent with a DNP area of practice.

Requirements:

  1. Use a minimum of any two theories discussed in the course to develop the case report.(select from Middle-range theories. Nursing theories, Ethical theories, and biophysical & Psychosocial theories)
  2. Apply one or more theories to describe understanding of the problem or situation of focus.
  3. Apply one or more theories to the recommended intervention or solution being proposed.
  4. Develop the case report across the entire scenario from the identified clinical or health care problem through proposing an intervention, implementation, and evaluation using an appropriate research instrument.
  5. Describe the evaluation of the selected research instrument in the case report.
  6. Lastly, explain in full the tenets, rationale for selection (empirical evidence), and clear application using the language of the theory within the case report.

In addition, your case report must include the following:

  1. Introduction with a problem statement.
  2. Thesis development and purpose
  3. Brief literature review.
  4. Description of the case/situation/conditions explained from a theoretical perspective.
  5. Discussion that includes a detailed explanation of the synthesized literature findings.
  6. Summary of the case.
  7. Proposed solutions to remedy gaps, inefficiencies, or other issues from a theoretical approach.
  8. Identification of a research instrument to evaluate the proposed solution along with a description of how the instrument could be evaluated.

You are an employee of iFly Airways, a small regional feeder line for a national carrier. Your CEO has just stated iFly Airways is merging with iDrive Rentals, which is in competition with Uber and Lyft, to provide a complete transportation package. You and your HR team have been told to develop a two to three-minute elevator speech (a quick synopsis of a subject, which can be delivered in two to three-minutes or less) about how your organization will screen future candidates through utilizing various methods. The two to three-minute presentation must include:

  1. Information regarding selection process(es) that can be used to identify high quality candidates.
  2. How your mission, vision, and values impact the selection process.
  3. How your organization uses assessments and screenings to select the best candidates for lower level, mid-level, and upper level positions. Provide examples for each positional level.

Requirements:

  • The presentation (PowerPoint or other presentation program) should be at least 12 slides with speaker’s notes, not including title or reference slides, and follow the CSU Global Writing Center (Links to an external site.) format. A full script including references is provided. A minimum of three scholarly sources should be cited and referenced. You will begin a four step guided case study for Southwest Airlines. You will need to complete and submit steps 1 and 2 for this order and I will continue place another order for setps 3 and 4 if you done well.

Step 1

Using the case information only, assess Southwest’s industry environment according to Porter’s Five forces. State whether the pressures are high or low for each forces and provide one paragraph on each explaining why. PS: The following video provides an explanation of Porter’s five forces with additional examples sprinkled throughout. Watch this video in conjunction with “SWOT Analysis 1”.

Conclude if the industry is attractive or unattractive and provide justification based on the five forces.

Step 2

Conduct an internal analysis of Southwest Airlines by identifying all the resources you can. Use these resources to form capabilities.

Include insights you have gained from your prior value chain analysis of Southwest Airlines. Place areas of the value chain under resources or capabilities as you deem suitable.

Use section 2 of the “SWOT analysis template” to guide your analysis. Identify and rank order capabilities the firm possesses that can aid competitiveness. The most competitive capability is ranked #1.

There are no word limit guidelines for the Southwest Airlines case assignment part 1 or part 2. However, the goal is to be meaningful and provide evidence you comprehend the case and formulate strategy. Use the template provide and fill in the areas left for the case information.
