Sustaining change can be difficult, as there are many variables that can affect implementation. One critical component of EBP is to ensure that practice change is part of an organization’s culture so it will continue to impact outcomes over time. Name two potential barriers that may prevent your EBP change proposal (Fall prevention for at risk patients), from continuing to obtain the same desired results 6 months to a year from now, and your strategies for overcoming these barriers.
Most employers tout being an “Equal Opportunity Employer.” In America, we promote both multiculturalism and diversity, but may not fully understand the differences. While multiculturalism may be great when thinking about cuisine and festivals, present an argument that some cultural practices should not be embraced for America to maintain its identity. Also, does it not make more sense to recognize diversity and promote a “fair” opportunity rather than an equal one?
3): Provide an example of an issue affecting women and, using the term “intersectionality,” discusses how women of color experience this issue differently from white women. And then respond:
This week we are going to start reading about Intersectionality, which is a major tool of analysis that we use in WOC feminisms. These first two weeks you will be referring back to the entire semester and I will be expecting you to gain mastery of these terms and ideas by the end of the semester in your final paper.
I also want you to take note that the origin of this theory is in Black Feminism. Why is this important? We know women of color’s labor is always erased. We will dive further into issues such as colorism in the WOC community a bit later, but for now I just want you to take note that this theory came from Black women.
Intersectionality will be the major tool of analysis that you will be using throughout the semester. What does this mean? It means we will be using this theory as if it were a pair of glasses and we will see the world through these glasses. In the case of WOC feminisms, what we are looking for is understanding privilege, power, and oppression.
Specific to this course, we will be looking primarily at how gender and race impact the lived experiences of women of color. We will also get to add in other variables throughout the semester, such as being LGBTQ+, disabled, fat, transgender, a mother, and so on.
